Olga Yudenko

The Bernard Betel Centre is mourning the passing of Olga Yudenko.
We were blessed to have Olga officially begin her employment with the Betel Centre in early February 2015 working as our Meals on Wheels Coordinator and in our Healthy at Home program. How privileged we were to know Olga and work with her these past 4 years.

Olga was a humble woman who would rarely talk about herself, but lovingly could, if prompted, boast with pride about her two wonderful sons. Olga was a woman of valour. On the Jewish Sabbath a special poem is recited Ashyet Chayil a Woman of Valour. This beautiful poem describes the elegance and grace of Olga. whose passion for life and her family were visible to all who knew her. Until her dying day, her only concern was that she adequately provide for her two sons. She was a woman of strong character, incredible intelligence and passion for her work.

Olga was a one of a kind, a true professional. She was self-directed, engaging, warm and an incredible problem solver. In the four years that Olga was at Betel she made many close friends and had an incredible impact both initially on our Healthy at Home program and more recently on our Meals on Wheels program. Olga was an organized, unassuming and a true leader.

Olga presented as an optimist, everything was always fine. But if you looked beyond those calm, striking blue eyes, things were not always as they appeared. She was aware of her illness long before many of us knew. But every day, she would come to work with a smile on her face even if she wasn’t feeling well. She didn’t want to worry her children, friends and colleagues.

Olga would want us to grieve her for a while, but more importantly she would want us to treasure the memories we have for her in our hearts today, tomorrow and for years to come. We will cherish Olga’s memory and let it live on in each of us.

"Keep the Light"
Our Exhibition at the Miles Nadal JCC

This past January 2019 we partnered with the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre to celebrate the immense talent of our Russian Oil Painting class with an exhibition titled “Keep the Light”. The opening Reception for the show was a great opportunity for artists, family, friends and the downtown Toronto community to bear witness to the
talent and dedication of this remarkable group. Read more HERE.

Marla Noble - Honouring a Lifetime of
Commitment to Volunteer Work

Marla Noble joined the volunteer team at the Bernard Betel Centre in 2008 as a Friendly Visitor volunteer. During her first three years, Marla provided friendship and conversation to a woman who was a Holocaust survivor. Following that, she took on a new role assisting in the cafeteria where she is still active today.
Last year, she was recognized for reaching the 10 year milestone for
volunteer service. Although active with us for the past 10 years, her volunteer engagement began many years prior to joining our team.
